How
Can You Help?
Are
you someone who thrives on learning? Do you have a strong urge to
feel as though you are making a contribution to the world? Do you
have special training or a special skill that you would like to
share? Then volunteering for the PMA may be just for you.
Volunteers at the PMA are our most important assets. Without their
kindness and generosity the PMA would cease to exist. Check out the
many ways you can help the PMA below. If you think you might be a
good fit or can help please
contact us.
Research Monitoring Program Volunteers:
Research Monitoring Program Volunteers (RMPV) have the rare
opportunity to learn technical field techniques in the capture,
process, and release of both migratory and residential avian
species. No experience is necessary, however RMPVs must be reliable
and consistent as the monitoring is constant and ongoing. We need
quick learners who are willing to volunteer in the early morning
hours between 5:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and/or
Fridays. We are seeking volunteers who can commit to at least one
day a week over an extended period of time of at least three to six
months.
Data Analysis Volunteers:
The
PMA is continually adding avian monitoring data to its database. If
you enjoy sorting through thousands of records, or helping to find
connections then data analysis volunteer may be the job for you.
Familiarity with databases is a plus and the ability to pay
attention to detail is a must.
Net
Repair and Site Maintenance Volunteers:
Net
repair and/or site maintenance volunteers are extremely important to
the continued monitoring success of the PMA. Due to the constant
use of the bird mist nets, net repair volunteers are in constant
need. While repairing nets can be long, it’s a great time to sit
down and listen to music, talk with a friend or just be calm. Net
repair volunteers must have dexterous fingers.
Due
to our tropical climate the monitoring sites are often in need of
clean up. Site maintenance volunteers will aid PMA staff with
clearing and trimming of vegetation at monitoring site locations.
Volunteers in this area must be comfortable or willing to learn how
to use a machete as well as enjoy being in areas that are thickly
vegetated.
Donations:
The
PMA is a volunteer based organization with 98% of our staff
consisting of volunteers. While we are able to keep our costs low,
we cannot run the program without the help of generous citizens who
are willing to donate equipment and money. If you would like to
make a contribution to the PMA please
