Fight against desertification and drought in Central America |
In order to improve the quality of information regarding the status of natural resources in Mesoamerica and strengthen institutional, governmental and private capacities to combat desertification and drought, a technical cooperation agreement was signed last June between Christian Mersmann, managing director of Global Mechanism (GM), and Pedro Ferreira, director general of the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (CATIE).

Educational experiences for European and North American students |
Since 2001, nearly 15 universities have visited CATIE’s headquarters located in Turrialba, Costa Rica. The objective of these visits is to learn about the work in research, education and technical cooperation being conducted at the campus in conjunction with partner institutions in CATIE’s member countries.

More value for coffee in northern Nicaragua |
As part of the actions being conducted by the Multi-sectoral Innovation Systems projects that is being implemented in Nicaragua and Honduras with the support of the Norwegian government and technical work by CATIE, work began at the beginning of 2006 to innovate value chains in order to produce and sell quality coffee from the highlands of Nicaragua and Honduras.
